When starting an Online game you'll need:
1) same version of General with your opponent or better the newest version of General (General4.5i for 45 or 20 countries),
2) program for virtual private network (we use hamachi),
3) when playing in online server, you'll need to add server in General:
go "options" and then write gpliga server - http://gpliga.ru/general.php or akasoft genliga server - http://akasoft.genliga.ru/general.php and click "add". But we mostly play a "network game" with direct ip or ip from vpn program (hamachi).

You can download game from our site. There is a folder with pack of General versions + hamachi (http://rusfolder.com/14813357).

Problems that can cause connection problems:
1) antivirus or windows firewall,
2) torrents or some other program using large amount of internet sources,
3) different general versions,
4) something that noone can understand . Such things happen some time. I suppose in new version there won't be connection problems.
